[ Sadly a wasted talent, as Broca's never been the kind of man to spend much time taking risks when money.

Taking risks with his safety though? That's another matter entirely, and he'll readily do that on the regular. Though this time he doesn't think there's that much risk to physical safety, given it has been a hot second since the last time he saw a crawler poke its ugly little head out.

He put on his actual boots today though in case he has any stomping to do.

None of which he admits to Loki as he nods and starts to head towards the dingier end of the hallway, which is impressive in an already pretty dingy looking hallway. ]

This way then.

[ To the shockingly easy to miss staircase down to the bowels of the resort. ]

[If there’s one thing that Loki knows, it’s that gambling does not have to be done with money. But this is hardly the time or place to have such a discussion. Perhaps he will bring it up later though.

Loki isn’t concerned for his physical safety at all. He has survived much and knows he’s rather difficult to kill. Unless the Mad Titan shows up, he’s pretty secure about that. He’s more concerned about what this place could do to his mental state. Mostly he’s pretty confident there as well. He’s become much more adept at blocking outside sources from his mind, but he’s also aware of how easily he gives into his emotions. This place didn’t make him hearts for nothing.

Silently, Loki follows Broca, making sure to keep note of which way they go and any turns they may take, just in case he ever needs to come back here himself.]

[ That's the risk, wasn't it? The two that Broca went into the maintenance level with before may not have had the most built up mental defenses, though it wasn't as if Broca had any particular training against psychic attacks of that nature either. It boiled down to a stubborn nature that refused to accept blame he didn't think should be placed on him. Hard to chip away at the guilt of a man who didn't feel much guilt, even if there were some things in his past he probably should feel guilty about.

He doesn't look particularly worried about what's to come though as he walks them down the stairs into the dingy hallways below. There's something quiet and almost bored about his demeanor for the first several minutes of their walk, until his expression changes slightly, and his ears twitch as he glances up.

He knows that he couldn't hear the voices that spoke to the other two before, so the chances are good whatever he's hearing now, barely audible and more just snatches of words rather than full sentences, is more mental than actual carried on sound waves. Hard to break the habit of his ears trying to twist towards the sound though. ]

You getting anything yet?

[ He glances over his shoulder at Loki, trying to get a read of how much this is affecting him now, and how much it might as they keep going. ]

[Not feeling guilt must be quite handy in situations like this. Once upon a time, Loki hadn’t felt much guilt either, or at least he had been good at ignoring it. Now he’s not so sure he has that capability anymore.

It isn’t long before Loki feels a sort of pressure in his mind. It’s like there’s a soft whispering all around him, but it feels almost like it’s inside his head as much as it is outside. He’s still managing to keep it to a whisper he forces himself not to listen to though.]

Yes. They are trying, but I am not so weak as to give up now.

[When Broca looks at him, he might notice that Loki is a little paler than usual, and perhaps a bit more strained, but otherwise there is no indication that he cannot handle what’s starting to happen.]

[ It's a surprising boon to his mental health, because Broca seems to be doing just fine trucking along despite the whispers, the only visible sign that he's hearing anything at all some pinched agitation in his expression.

He is noting that Loki himself looks a little more strained now, but he doesn't comment too much on it yet, just tossing out a small warning. ]

They get louder the deeper we go.

[ And that's the only real explanation he gives as he keeps leading Loki through the hallways, moving with a confidence that suggests he might have come down here on his own even after the situation he described with his little adventuring party. ]

[Even if this becomes much worse, it will take a lot for Loki to give in. He’s stronger than he sometimes appears. Though he doesn’t imagine most people here think that of him anyway. If Thor were here, he might have some comment, knowing better than anyone how Loki’s emotions can get the better of him, but he likes to think he’s come a long way since then and has come through so much worse than these voices.

No, it’s going to take a lot more than some voices telling him things he’s heard his whole life to deter him from learning more about this place.]

[Not that there’s really much more he can do. He notes that Broca seems to know where he’s going, but only feels thankful for that. It would not do to get lost down here. Loki can stand a lot, but there is a limit.]

[ A bad sense of directions down a set of dark, wandering maintenance hallways really could spell disaster for someone, especially given the scale of the resort. Broca has explored the entire basement, certain doors being locked make it hard to get too far, but he has a fairly good sense of how to get to this particular room.

So he'll give Loki a quick nod of acknowledgement before getting quiet again himself, letting those voices wash over him like noisy, annoying water as he keeps moving forward. In his head or not, the one frustrating thing about the voices is that they make it hard to focus enough to listen out for other real sounds.

His ears twist this way and that, trying to hear as best he can as he leads Loki to the room he remembers, pushing the door open to reveal an abandoned, dusty looking room filled with a half a dozen egg shaped pods that look like they haven't been used in a long time.

Whatever it was they were used for before...

He looks back at Loki now, and nods his head towards the nearest one, encouraging the man to take a closer look. ]

[It wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for Loki to normally want to break the silence in a situation like this, but for once he can’t find anything to say. Between his growing anxiety simply by being here and the never ending voices telling him he’s responsible for his mother’s death. Reminding him of how many people he killed in New York. How disappointed everyone was in him… Well, he simply has no words.

Instead he simply concentrates on Broca’s back, following him through the winding hallways and making sure he isn’t distracted so he doesn’t get lost. Loki is usually pretty good with direction, but he wouldn’t put anything past this place.

When they make it to the room, he stops. All the anxiety is suddenly washed away by curiosity. The voices remain, but his fascination by the egg shaped pods makes it easier for him to ignore them. Slowly and cautiously, Loki approaches one of the pods. They are exactly like Broca described and do seem to dormant at least. If not dead.

Why he considers them to have ever been alive at all, he’s unsure, but chalks up to their similarity to eggs.]

When you were here before, did any of you touch them? Perhaps try to open them?

[ The shape does have something organic about it, though Broca's second move had been to fruitlessly look for some sort of power supply connecting to the eggs. If there is anything, it must be built into the floor under the pods, because he couldn't find wires running anywhere, or anything he recognized as a battery pack at least.

Though the first thing he did was... ]

Yeah. I couldn't find a way to though.

[ He did stop someone from trying to blow one open, and he now wonders if he should have, because they might have actually been able to crack the eggs if he hadn't. Still, the whole place has an unnerving feeling to it, and he's seem too many pod shaped things that will blow sky high with just a little pressure applied to them, and he didn't want to see if these eggs would be one of them. ]

[Looking for a power supply doesn’t occur to Loki. Even if there was one at some point, they seem to be long dormant, or shut off at least. Though he does get the distinct impression that they are organic. Not that Loki could ever be sure of such a thing. In all his travels through all the realms, he’s never been anywhere quite like this place.

Loki nods, almost distractedly as he approaches one of the pods and reaches out to touch it.]

Yes, it seems rather solid.

[Probably a good thing. Loki doesn’t want to destroy the pods. That hardly seems like a way to find out more.]

[ If a world traveler hasn't ever seen anything quite like the Golden Peacock before, then there's very little hope for the rest of them. Although Broca is vaguely familiar with some people who have accidentally come from their world onto his, he's never traveled off of Terra until now, and his planet has some wild technology, but nothing that looks quite like these egg pods.

Broca takes a step back, giving himself a nice, full view of Loki interacting with the pods. They remain as inert as they did the first time he saw them though. ]

Any guess what they do?

[ His hopes aren't high for that either, but it doesn't hurt to ask what people's guesses are. ]

[Travelling to different worlds is one thing, but finding a world that pulls people in against their wills to have sex? That is definitely something new.

Loki lays a hand on it and then knocks. The shell his thick, but he’s fairly certain the pod is hollow.]

It is only a guess, but typically pods grow things, or change them. Caterpillars to butterflies and that sort of thing.

[He pauses and looks over his shoulder at Broca.]

I do hope I am wrong about that and whatever they are are never used at all.

[ Broca eyes the pods warily at the comment about the pods growing things, though the comment about changing them gets an immediate tensing up from the big guy, his ears flattening immediately. There's actually a notable step away from the machines now that Loki has made the comment about what pods are likely used for.

Broca was not there on the mission his company went on that involved the usage of an ancient machine called the Sarcophagus, but he'd heard about the sort of beast it transformed the boy who entered it into.

Though here in the Golden Peacock, the kind of transformation it would put someone through would likely be less physical, and more mental given the state it needs people to be in.

The idea isn't any more comforting thing. ]

[Loki might not know Broca very well, but it’s clear as day that his guesses have upset the man. And rightfully so, the conclusions he’s naturally come to are quite upsetting. Loki hopes more than anything that he’s wrong.

It seems they have come to the same conclusion though. It does seem more like this place to want to change someone’s mentality or personality rather than change them physically. He wonders if the pods were once a way for the hotel to change someone’s mind when they did not want to participate.

That thought causes a shiver to run down Loki’s spine.]

I think I have seen enough. I do wish to thank you for bringing me here though. If you are ever in need of help in any matter, do not hesitate to ask.

[He straightens and moves away from the pod.]

If you are not adverse to it, I could teleport us out of here. Any of the public areas or the stairwell in which we met. Wherever you would prefer.

[ There's no way of knowing for sure if Loki's guess on the nature of these pods happens to be right, but it makes more sense to Broca than anything else he's heard of so far. He's certainly familiar with the concept in a second-hand way, and that's enough for him to feel leery of them.

As if this place didn't have enough ways of tinkering with their minds...

His eyes are still on the pods, even as Loki moves back towards him, nodding somewhat absentmindedly at the offer. He is noting it though. While Broca isn't sure if he will need to cash in on that offer, he is someone who takes favors seriously.

For now though... ]

The staircase works fine for me. It's close to my room.

[ And while that means it's too close to this mess, it still keeps him from having to trudge through the whispering hallways one more time. ]

[As someone who is actually able to tinker with someone’s mind himself, even Loki is perturbed by some of the ideas he’s come up with in the last few minutes. He’s done many questionable things in his past, but even he kept messing with peoples minds to a minimum. With the exceptions of the whole sceptre thing of course.

Loki feels a trickle of concern as Broca seems rather distracted. It’s hard to tell what the other man is thinking, considering how quiet he has seemed in general. It’s not something Loki is really used to. But when Broca responds, he lets out a bit of a sigh of relief.

He also feels a little badly that his companion’s room is so close to this mess, but there is hardly anything he can do about it, so he doesn’t say anything about it.]

Excellent. Please hold onto me. And if you have anything like motion sickness, or an easily upset stomach, I recommend you keep your eyes shut.

[ The fact that he's close to these instruments that suddenly have disturbing new possibilities raised doesn't escape his thoughts either, but he'll try not to think about it too much. With the way this hotel works, he somehow doubts even being on higher floors would do him much good if they decided to power these pods back up.

So with a quiet but deep inhale, he'll reach over to put his hand on Loki's shoulder. He's more than ready to get the hell out of here. ]

I don't.

[ Not with the way he and his friends tend to drive cars. They'd be in rough shape if they got motion sick given that. ]

[Everything Loki has learned recently has him concerned about being here in general. Honestly though, he's never really felt good about being here at all. Finding these things has just made him even more concerned for everyone here.

Loki nods and doesn't say anything more as he teleports them back to where they entered the stairwell. When they come to a stop, he shivers lightly, as if he's physically reacting to being away from those things, even if he's not sure he can ever be far enough from them.]

[ Disorienting, but still preferable to remaining in the basement for one second longer. Chances are good that Broca will be able to fall asleep just as well as he usually does, but the possibilities of what this place has done... may do again in the future will weigh on his mind.

He's already seeming a little more pensive and somehow even quieter than when Loki first came to find him for this tour. His ears twisted to the side as he contemplates the implications of what has been suggested today.

He does let them relax as he glances at Loki. Those kind of comments might be made somewhat idly, and most people might brush them off. ]

Sure, I'll keep that in mind.

[ But a former mobster doesn't let go of these things that easily, and Broca keeps favors owed in mind, whether he's the one in debt, or the one owed. He may never cash in on it, but it's good to know he has the option. ]

[Though Loki might be the sort to talk a bit too much, he’s currently actually relieved for the quiet. Everything they just saw is weighing on Loki and he needs time to process.

He means it, Loki always means it when he says he owes someone. It’s not something he’s said often, at least not until much more recently and he wouldn’t say it if he didn’t mean it. At least not anymore.]

Good. Now, I’m afraid I must take my leave. I have a few things I need to work out. Thank you again.

[ Looking at Loki's face right now as he takes in what Broca shows him, it really doesn't feel like he did the man much of a favor. Still better to know than be taken unaware by this knowledge later, but the possibilities without concrete answers were...

Troubling to say the least.

Broca can understand the need to sit with this discovering and think about it for a bit. He won't keep the man, and gives him a small nod of understanding. ]

[ The wording might not sound the most encouraging, but he means it genuinely.

Good luck to Loki. Good luck to him. Good luck to everyone that got stuck in this questionable, seedy resort that's using opulence to try and blind people with flash. Broca himself might need to think as he makes his way back to his own room on here on the second floor, just a little closer to those machines than he'd like. ]
