[ Broca’s never tried to be subtle about where his interest falls, even if he’s not always the clearest about voicing his thoughts out loud. A look can say just as much as a thousand words, though given no one is going to ever get that many words out of Broca at once, a look can sometimes say a lot more than his words ever will.

That Sizhui decides to take a look back in turn does not go unnoticed either, though it does not particular bother Broca. He’s well aware of the aesthetics of his own body, and the appeal that his muscles can have to some people. Not everyone likes men, and not everyone likes their men buff, though given their encounter before in the bathroom he’s at least fairly certain that Sizhui’s sexual interest in men was not just an act in the moment, or spurred only by the whims of the hotel. The unsubtle eyes skating over his body before they return to his face also makes him guess that Sizhui is not someone who finds high developed muscles unappealing either.

He won’t comment on it though as he moves to rest a knee on the bed, causing the whole thing to dip down towards him for a moment. ]

Can’t imagine why it wouldn’t be.

[ Seems like outside of sleeping without clothing entirely, it’s physically about as comfortable as a person can be when in bed. That there could be mental discomfort for a person being exposed like this doesn’t even begin to occur to him right now as he crawls fully onto the bed. ]

[maybe sizhui ought to learn how to be less subtle? some people like being checked out, but he's never really been able to tell with broca. the fact he knows he's good-looking helps a bit and whenever he realizes that broca noticed his look, he does his absolute best to not seem sheepish about it.

he's pretty sure he's been clear about his preferences, so it makes sense to not assume that the interest came from the hotel's ways of persuasion— although, it also would've been fair because he doesn't think he's ever expressed said preference to broca? if the way he was looking at him is any indication though, it's clear he's definitely interested in broca and he cannot lie, he's looking forward to cuddling with him as well.

one shoulder lifts in a half-shrug, he smiles faintly then remarks,] Well, some people may only be comfortable in the nude.

[which is the only thing he can imagine now and that's not something he should be considering while broca's climbing into bed with him. nevertheless, the thought does cross his mind, yet he shakes his head then shifts to tuck himself a little ways underneath the blankets, making sure to give broca all the room he needs to get fully comfortable.]

[ Although Sizhui has been forthcoming in his interest to know Broca as a person, and to continue to help him in various ways, it's true that he's never expressed his physical preferences with the man. Their only sexual act so far had been prompted by the meddling of the hotel at large too, so there was no prior no reason to think that Sizhui has any specific sexual interest in him.

But there's equally no reason to think that Sizhui might not be interested. Seems it definitely wasn't just house meddling in their case then.

As Broca stretches out his legs, appreciating how spacious Sizhui's bed is compared to his own, he gives the younger man a thoughtful look at the comment. While he doesn't typically sleep without some clothing on, he has fallen asleep completely naked before. It's fine by him as well, but more than anything he's got to wonder after that look-- ]

I can get naked if that's how you'd prefer me.

[ From any other person that would come out as a suggestive purr of a statement. From Broca is a casual, unbothered offer that isn't really a flirt despite somehow being an invitation. ]

[that's precisely how sizhui wants it to be, too. he doesn't want broca to think that he's only in the friendship for sexual acts and the like because that isn't the case at all. it's exactly part of the reason why he invited broca over, so they could spend some time with each other out of the bedroom.

yet here they are, preparing to sleep together with at least the intention of cuddling.

he watches broca stretch out, smiling faintly at how he appreciates the extra space. sizhui can only imagine how much of a difference it is compared to broca's bed and he can completely understand wanting to enjoy it to the fullest. following the look broca gives him, he can't help tilting his head with consideration, wondering what it is that has broca looking thoughtful. the question is answered not too long afterward, leaving sizhui's ears a little warm, but he manages to keep it together (for the most part) and raises both shoulders in a proper shrug this time.]

That's completely up to you. If you are comfortable that way, go right ahead. [and the cultivator leaves the ball in broca's court again, not denying the invitation, though leaving it up to the other man, nevertheless. he's fine regardless because it wouldn't be the first time he's slept with someone in the nude before.]

[ Broca has to pause and think about this for a second. The fact that he's not particularly good at reading signals is something he's known about himself for a long time now, and while Sizhui's comment might have genuinely been a throwaway statement, made to take Broca's comfort into consideration, there are implications words like that can have as well.

The problem is that while Broca is bad at reading into intentions and understanding them, Sizhui's also doing his best to play it cool for a very different reason. He's unreadable to Broca, and that makes him hesitate.

People should either be more like books, and have some way for Broca to peep inside their heads and understand their true thoughts and feelings during a situation (or barring that, be like a play and make plenty of asides for him to overhear), or they should state their intentions upfront.

Wavering on this for a moment longer than he likes. Broca shrugs himself, before hooking his thumbs into the waistband of his boxer briefs, and yanking them off himself. He'll take the gamble that he's really being asked to do this right now, because it seems like the worst case scenario is that he misread, and Sizhui at least genuinely doesn't mind. ]

[broca pauses and sizhui does the same thing, still watching him curiously, wondering what his next plan is, even though he's fully expecting broca to shrug the comment off completely and stay dressed just as he is. it was meant to be an actual remark that took broca's comfortability into account, but if broca wants to think deeper about it, sizhui's not going to stop him.

he likes to think himself pretty readable most times, except for those moments when some diplomacy is involved; this isn't one of those moments, so he thinks he's doing fine, even if he is trying to act like his ears aren't pinkened.

sounds like broca needs mindreading powers or something... or maybe not? wouldn't it complicate things sometimes, too? no time to really think about that, not while broca's still in the middle of pausing, just long enough that sizhui's readying to question him—

whenever the other man starts removing his underwear, his expression softens slightly, smile still there, though something more. reassured? he had said if broca was comfortable that way, after all, so he's not going to question it, either. he simply watches for a beat or two longer than necessary then finally averts his gaze once broca's disrobed completely, his body shifting until he's hunkered down underneath the blankets, resting on his side facing broca, elbow propped up and his cheek resting on his hand.

should he be naked as well? sizhui's not sure and he doesn't put too much thought into that, just refocuses his attention on broca's face initially, gaze drifting to his ears when it feels like he might be watching too closely.]

[ Mindreading powers sure would save him a lot of trouble. Although Sizhui isn't a particularly difficult or tricky guy to read, there are enough people in the resort that are, that Broca's gone ahead and started assuming he doesn't fully understand people's intentions at any given point in time. Sometimes it's easier that way, and he just takes the route that seems like it will cause the least amount of problems if he ends up wrong about things.

Given the way Sizhui's gaze lingers for a moment, he figures he probably got it right this time too. He is, of course, entirely off the mark, but the assumption that going this route will be the path of least resistance isn't entire wrong either.

With Sizhui mostly disrobed, and Broca now completely naked, the man gets comfortably settled into the bed, head resting on a pillow much nicer than the one he's used to, and face tilted slightly towards Sizhui.

That the look being returned is why Sizhui decides to glance ear-ward is also lost on Broca, so he offers something he thinks is helpful. ]

It's fine if you want to touch them.

[ He figures that Sizhui is more mindful than most as someone with his own animal features. ]

[assuming isn't always a bad thing. sometimes, it's necessary, and if something is wrong, one can only hope that the other person will correct them. in this case, broca isn't entirely wrong, and sizhui doesn't feel the need to correct him when he makes this assumption; he simply accepts broca's choice at face-value and rolls with it, much like how he's done with a lot of things that have happened in golden peacock.

again, he wants broca to be comfortable and if being nude is his way of being comfortable then so be it.

once broca settles in as well, sizhui scooches a little closer in preparation for cuddling, his gaze still unwavering for now, at least until broca says that it would be fine if he touched his ears.

his eyebrows lift with consideration, he tilts his head to the side then reaches one hand out toward said ears, his fingertips gently stroking over the base of them. a slow smile spreads across his face as he does, his hand moving upward until he can take one between his fingers and oh-so-gently stroke the inside with his thumb.]

Thank you. I'm sure a lot of people want to touch them and it can be rather tiresome at times.

[and it's a correct assumption that sizhui's more mindful, given his monster transformations. many of them have ears, so he's gone through the same thing that broca probably has and knows just how bothersome it can be when people just want to go straight for touching rather than consider the other person's comfortability.]

[ There must be some kind of siren's call that a pair of fuzzy ears have to people. It's not something that Broca has ever really understood, but he also grew up in a place where they're so common that it's rarer to see people without. Not unusual, of course, the birds, snakes, and fish of the world don't tend to come equipped with extra fur, but he grew up in Siracusa were nearly everyone was a fox or a wolf.

Seems that the lack of those kind of features in other worlds makes people unable to assess what is and isn't appropriate to ask for. A damn shame, but Broca's getting more used to the question than people seem to be getting used to Broca.

When it's someone he trusts though, it can feel nice to have someone rub across the base of them, just like an warm hand rubbing comfortingly across an arm is pleasant. Not a bad thing to be touched, just a weird question to ask of a stranger.

Sizhui isn't a stranger though, and Broca is able to relax and close his eyes as the younger man starts to gently stroke them. ]

A lot of people don't have much sense.

[ Just as a casual confirmation of Sizhui's comment there. ]

[or something like that because, as it can be noticed, not even sizhui is immune to the ears despite having his own on many occasions. maybe it's different for him because he enjoys it a lot? it might also have something to do with him growing up in a place where they weren't everywhere; nobody had animal appendages back on his homeworld and if they had, they probably would've been shunned for being different. after four years of having them, however, he does finally understand that at least asking before going in for a touch is the polite thing to do.

in this case, broca offered, so he needn't worry too much about it, but at least broca seems to be getting used to people and his ears.

watching broca's expression soften feels nice, too. he continues rubbing the ears, lingering near the bases whenever possible since he is well-aware how sensitive they can be there.

sizhui huffs a soft laugh and nods in agreement, lifting up higher on his arm, to the point where he can lean in a little closer and briefly nuzzle broca's forehead — just the slightest bit of extra affection before he pulls away entirely and settles back down, one arm draped across his side and the other tucking underneath his head as he gets comfortable again.]

You're definitely right about that, unfortunately.

[ Not that people can't get shunned in Broca's world for similar things. Depending what nation your from, things can sometimes get real nasty for those of you that have specific kinds of differences. The Sarkaz in particular take a pretty hefty brunt of that ire, though Infected individuals like Broca have their own problems to deal with.

Fortunately for him, his own country of Siracusa didn't much seem to mind, but there are places...

Well, irrelevant now. What matters is he's with someone who understands the woes of being a fuzzy eared person among a crowd of those who are lacking them. People have a tendency to get carried away in their excitement...

Though with the right person, it can feel nice, a puff of rumbling air escapes him, a tiger's chuff in response to the gentle feeling of Sizhui's fingers gently playing over his ears as his face presses affectionately against Broca's forehead.

He looks relaxed, sated by the affection, and hums out a low note of agreement. He knows that he is, though he's slowly learning to deal with some of it. ]

[that's not at all surprising, to be honest. it makes sense that there would be tension between people in every world for some sort of reason and it just so happens to be those particular reasons for broca. (for sizhui, it would be because of his bloodline, but he doesn't think about that around places like this—) though it's lucky for them both, they are accepted fine back in their homeworlds.

sizhui can't help smiling faintly at the rumble, clearly pleased with himself and the fact that broca's so relaxed. he's quite tempted to reach out and continue petting him, but he's already resettled and doesn't really feel like moving around again, given the fact that tiredness is slowly starting to set in the longer he lies there.

it feels super nice to know that he's one of those people who can be allowed such affection, though.]

[ Quiet moments like this are harder to come by in Terra sometimes, though Broca's life in Rhodes Island affords him a lot more than when he lived in his home country of Siracusa. Actual peace without having to keep one eye open at all times...

That said, there's a slight disruption in the sound as it becomes something more of a scoffing snort for a moment. ]

Let's not go that far.

[ Comfortable with Sizhui is one thing, but settling in here is another entirely. He doesn't like the idea of getting comfortable with the Golden Peacock for any number of reasons. ]

[sizhui isn't unused to quiet moments like this, but he wasn't used to having them with someone that he's been intimate with before. he had them with a few people on the other two worlds he visited, sure, though something feels different with broca. maybe it's something to do with the fact they seem to get along really well without it having to be forced upon them? he's not sure, yet he likes how it feels, nevertheless.

the abrupt change in broca's voice has him pausing momentarily, his eyebrows lifting with consideration before his expression softens again and he inclines his head.]

My apologies. I shouldn't have assumed that.

[nobody should want to get used to being somewhere that isn't their home, but sizhui's so used to world-hopping by now, it's almost inevitable that he'll get comfortable and then end up disappearing again.]

[ There's probably a difference the further you stay away from home, and even more of one when you're jerked around from world to world without getting to see yours again. Broca wouldn't really know, since this is his first time ever being off of Terra, and his general stubbornness has him refusing to accept the idea that he won't be able to return home soon enough.

It makes it harder also not to get a little combative when people talk like he should be prepared to be here for the long haul too, though he realizes none of them mean anything by it. The hope is for him to not spend his time here miserable, especially from those who have given up on the idea of getting back themselves, but...

He makes a dismissive sound, not willing to say he's fine with the comment, but trying to make it clear he's not overly bothered by it either. ]

I have no intentions of ever settling in.

[deferences]

[a huge difference, really. at some point, you just believe you won't be getting home again and that's how sizhui feels with all this world-hopping. again, he hasn't not enjoyed it, because he has and he likes all the people he's met, but the idea of going home with all this new information under his belt feels . . . bizarre. (maybe he would forget? that would be nice, so he wouldn't have to suffer with it, but something tells him that he would remember something of his time away from home.)

if broca doesn't want to settle in at the golden peacock, sizhui's not going to judge him; he wouldn't want to settle either if it was his first time being somewhere that's not his home. he would be fighting tooth and nail to get back, but he sees no reason not to accept where he's at for now.

he head-bobs with acknowledgement,] I understand. You don't have to settle in if you don't want to. I'm sure you would much rather work toward getting home, much like other people.

[broca]

[ There's a simple stubbornness to Broca in some ways. While he's a smarter man and a more complex thinker than the big, muscle-y silence might make most people assume at a glance, there are plenty of ways where he's very straight-forward. This is one of them. Broca wants to get home, and therefore Broca refuses to accept that he won't.

At the same time a simple thing could change his mind as well. Finding a reason to want to stay, likely in the form of a person or multiple people, could eventually change his goals, though so far no one had managed to earn his loyalty to the same extent as his friends back home.

So he will go back to them. It's not a question of if, but a matter of when as far as he's concerned. Go home, or die trying.

He makes a vague noise of agreement at that, just to make sure it's clear that yes, that is very much his stance, but just to drive in his point he'll add one little bit. ]

No matter how long it takes.
