[ It probably doesn't help that he has no idea who he is talking to or what this person looks like. That may make a vast difference. The only assumption he can make now is— ]

No. I have no strong feelings about cats.

[ Ironic for a man who is one. ]

And? That doesn't explain why the cat puns bother you.

[ Fine. He gets it. This guy isn't going to tell him more, is he? He can't force an explanation. Maybe he can find out for himself if he comes across that stuff. Not that he will actively search for it. There are a lot of other things he has to get to know. ]

[ The good news is that he will actually answer this! ]

[ The bad news is, it's not a particularly helpful answer. No amount of time in a new world will break Broca of his habit of underexplaining things that are common in his own world, no matter how confusing they are to other people. ]

[ There is a hint of doubt in that statement. What does he know! The lack of an explanation is made even worse by the fact that Till has never seen an actual cat aside from images. An image isn't enough. Should he ask to see this cat? ]

[ Don't worry, Till. An explanation is about to make the whole thing so, so much worse. ]

[ When a man absolutely refuses to give up on the terminology from his planet, despite the fact that it confuses literally every other person around him, and he's long since learned the phrase "catboy".

[ Right? He is almost one hundred percent positive he has this correct. He may not have held the best grades through general learning, but a cat is a cat. Why is this guy arguing on this point? ]

And they cannot talk. If cats could talk, they could sing. Then there would be a bunch of cats around. But there aren't any.

Why would cats sing just because they can talk?

[ That doesn't even begin to make sense to him, but instead of continuing to have this argument, he just sighs loudly and turns this conversation from voice to video, making sure to hold his watch at the right distance and angle to catch his ears in frame as he stares tiredly at the camera. ]

Because if something can talk, it should be capable of singing.

[ What's with that long, languished, suffering sight???

With the video feed flickering to life, in a stupid move, Till tries to back away from his very wrist. That's not happening, but a sudden change from voice to video is going to have that reaction. Warn him first!!! Give him a moment to try to compose himself and ignore that stupid performance he just put on. ]

What am I supposed to be looking at? That you're not a cat?

[ Broca's ears immediately twitch backwards at the question, which does not disqualify a very elaborate headband, but does sure make them seem more lively. ]

[ Different. ]

And these aren't part of a headband. ... I also don't sing.

[ But that's a by choice thing. ]

A feline is a cat!

[ He is recycling that very same line he used earlier. Miscommunication can lead to that. He does not comprehend the context in which the word is used, even while his gaze lingers on those very realistic ears. ]

Right. Sure. They're not some costume.

[ Maybe. Just maybe. That's true. He opts to ignore his doubt. ]

But I guess somehow I can't picture you singing.

[ He's had a lot of people curious about the ears before, but he's not sure he's ever had anyone this outright skeptical about their existence. Even if someone had spent their life never coming into contact with a Feline (a baffling prospect), he has to wonder how they're so much more outlandish than waking up in this resort without any explanation at all.

It's a good thing Till can't see his tail starting to angrily swish off camera. ]

Because I don't sing.

[ Two can play the repeating themselves game. ]

It's that bad?

[ That is the only reason someone would entirely refuse to sing—shame and sparing others from their poor musical skills. He won't insist on his stance only to spare this guy from that embarrassment. However, even if the results are horrible, if a cat talks, it should be able to sing. What he sees here is just some guy. He is still disappointed by that turn of events. ]

I'm going to find an actual cat.

It's not great.

[ He sings flat for sure the few times he's tried, but he's also just not overly motivated to try. ]

Sure, if you want...?

[ Broca seems no reason to discourage that if he really wants to try. He could even point him to a guy who could help him find every possible cat in this place.

He won't do that. The arguments aren't so bad that he's going to subject Till to that guy, but he could. ]

There is always practice.

[ The one method for people who need improvement. However, not everyone can get better? He has no idea, he would have to listen to this cat guy sing before he can decide if his singing is salvageable. Although bad can be subjective to a degree. It's more of a matter of preference. He knows his voice can be a bit rough and a little too husky for those segyein but fuck them. It's good, it's great. They prefer something else. But does have his fans... and fuck them too. ]

Maybe later. I'm going to figure out what to do about this thing here.

[ He means the profile. ] But if you decide to practice, I can listen. I'm good with music. Oh, right. It says so there.

[ It's an interesting offer to be sure. No one has ever offered to help him improve his singing before, but then again Broca's never expressed a lot of interest in becoming a great singer either. He's not sure he knows all that many great singers in the first place, though he does know a handful of people who can carry a tune at least. ]

Maybe it's better if I stick to something I'm good at.

[ A voice like his, it probably wouldn't be painful to listen to, but it would be flat and uninspiring. He's better suited to continuing to use his hands to build. ]

[ Give him a moment as he tries to parse through that response that's not a definite no, but there is no agreement to accept his offer. Instead, it lacks interest? Then that is a no! Well, yeah, maybe it was weird of him to make that suggestion when he barely knows this person claiming to be a cat. It was something. He thought he could do that something. But it's fine. ]

[ It's a fine offer for people who want to learn to sing. It's never been on Broca's list of skills he wants to learn admittedly as an art that's more performative in nature.

He'd prefer people appreciate his finished products, which is why... ]
